Themed around the four pillars of diversity—sexuality, gender, disability, and race— the anthology film “My Melbourne” features four unique diverse stories based on true incidents. My Melbourne is a truly inclusive feature film, celebrating diverse voices and talents. Four iconic Indian filmmakers — Onir, Rima Das, Imtiaz Ali,and Kabir Khan worked with emerging creatives from underrepresented backgrounds to create this film about identity and belonging based on authentic migrant experience.
NANDINI
Indraneel, a queer Indian man and his estranged father reunite in Melbourne to complete a ceremonial ritual, exploring their fraught relationship and the power of forgiveness amid grief.
JULES
Newly married Sakshi and homeless Jules form an unlikely bond, navigating their struggles and finding connection despite their differences.
EMMA
Emma, a talented deaf dancer, grapples with self- doubt and discrimination until a chance encounter with another deaf dancer inspires her to embrace her uniqueness and find her inner strength.
SETARA
Setara, a 15-year-old Afghan girl rebuilding her life in Melbourne after fleeing the Taliban ,finding her sense of belonging through cricket amid family tensions and past trauma.

Opening Night at Indian Film Festival of Melbourne 2024

My Melbourne is the Opening Night Film of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne 2024. With two full houses at Xtreamscreen Cinemas, Hoyts District Docklands, and over 800 attendees, we celebrated the world premiere of My Melbourne. Directors Imtiaz Ali, Kabir Khan, and Rima Das, along with key cast and crew members, as well as local and international talents, joined the event. It was a night filled with great energy and pride, celebrating a film inspired by Melbourne and the authentic lived experiences within this city.

The film was beautifully received by a full house audience in Mumbai, with a standing ovation and cheering throughout. In the post-screening Q&A, the audience asked many great questions, leading to engaging discussions with the directors, producer, and writer.

We were incredibly proud to share the film with the Jaipur audience and celebrate the stories of Melbourne on such a wonderful platform. What made the experience even more memorable was receiving the Green Rose (Global Message) Award and the Best Director Award—an honour that truly means a lot to our team.

Opening Night Film at the UK Asian Film Festival London
My Melbourne proudly opened the UK Asian Film Festival 2025 as the Opening Gala Film, marking its European premiere to a warmly received audience and critics. The film went on to win two prestigious Tongues on Fire Flame Awards 2025: Best Film and the award for ‘Longing and Belonging. These honors highlight the film’s emotional impact and cross-cultural connection with audiences in the UK and beyond.
